ASU's Pressley, Turner, Pac-10 Field Athletes of the Week


<p align="justify">The Pacific-10 Conference announced its weekly track and field awards with a pair of student-athletes from Arizona State University garnering recognition for their previous weekend of success in Tucson. <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/pressley_jessica00.html… Pressley</a> was selected as the Pac-10 Women's Field Athlete of the Week while <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/turner_matt00.html">Matt Turner</a> was named the Pac-10 Men's Field Athlete of the Week. Both awards are the first of the season for either Sun Devil this season and marks the second time this year that a pair of Sun Devils were honored in the same week as <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/williams_charonda00.htm… Williams</a> (track) and <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/johnson_jacquelyn00.htm… Johnson</a> (field) earned the honors on April 9.</p><separator></separator><p align="justify">Pressley won three events at the annual Double Dual with Arizona and Northern Arizona in Tucson on Saturday, capturing the hammer, discus and shot put. The senior from Elk Grove, Calif., opened with a toss of 224-01 (68.31m) to win the hammer and set a school record. Her toss also is the second-best in the history of the Pac-10 and currently ranks second in the nation. She added a win in the discus with a mark of 177-11 (54.24m) before taking the shot put in 57-9.75 (17.62m), which currently stands as the top collegiate mark this year.</p><separator></separator><p align="justify">Turner competed in a trio of events and won twice while adding a second-place finish in the jumps. A senior from Pomona, Calif., Turner took the long jump and triple jump while also placing second in the high jump at the Double Dual. He improved his career outdoor best to 26-1.50 (7.96m) to move into fifth on the all-time ASU lists and into fourth on the current NCAA list. He then competed in the triple jump for the first time this season, hitting a personal-best mark of 51-5.00 (15.67m) to win his second event. He cleared 6-8.75 (2.05m) in the high jump.</p><separator></separator><p align="justify">Both Pressley and Turner will have the weekend off from competition as they, along with much of their teammates will prepare for the 2008 Pac-10 Conference Outdoor Track &amp; Field Championships presented by 76 Gasoline in Tempe on May 16-17.
