She earned the gymnastics team's Scholar Award last year, and her most impressive accomplishment this semester was her acceptance into the Mayo Clinic Arizona and Arizona State University Barrett Honors College Premedical Scholars Program. Atkinson was one of only 20 students selected for the program, and it will give her the opportunity to shadow physicians, receive mentoring and gain hands-on laboratory experience, providing her great preparation for medical school.</p><separator></separator><p>Stangel, a redshirt freshman quarterback, has shown great improvement in his academics since arriving at ASU last year. He participated in Summer Bridge and persevered through a challenging semester in Fall 2007 to finish his first year at ASU in strong fashion. He earned a 3.23 GPA in Spring 2008 and was named a Maroon and Gold Scholar Athlete/Scholar Baller for that semester. Stangel has continued his hard work in the classroom this year while also providing depth at the quarterback position for the football team.<!-- STORY AD BEGINS HERE --></p>
