ASU alums gear up for second season of intramural sports league

November 05, 2010

The Arizona State University Alumni Association is bringing alums together again by sponsoring its second season of its intramural sports leagues exclusively for Sun Devils and their friends.

The winter season begins with softball and sand volleyball leagues Jan. 12 and 13, respectively. The association teamed up with Just Play Sports Now, a national intramural organization, to develop the program, which saw great success last fall in its inaugural season. This season, teams will meet to play on Wednesday or Thursday nights throughout the winter to battle it out for the championship trophy.

“It’s a great opportunity for alums to get together and enjoy some fun, exercise and camaraderie all at the same time,” explained Jennifer Holsman, executive director of operations at the Alumni Association.

Team registration will be open through Jan. 7. Leagues will be co-ed and open to everyone, although each team must have at least one member of the ASU Alumni Association. Registration fee includes customized jerseys, league schedule, playing arena, referees/umpires, all necessary playing equipment and the championship trophy. Except for the captain, team players do not have to be named at the time of registration.
