Alumni Association announces Grad Cap competition winners


<p>The ASU Alumni Association recently announced the winners of its first-ever Grad Cap decorating competition.</p><separator></separator><p>In April, graduating seniors were asked to exhibit their Sun Devil pride by decorating their mortar board cap and submitting photos of their cap to the contest. More than 37,000 votes were cast by members of the ASU community and family and friends.</p><separator></separator><p>Winners were selected by popular vote in three categories:</p><separator></separator><p>• Most ASU Pride: Elizabeth Wilcox, Herberger Institute For Design and the Arts<br />• Best Use of an Inspirational Quote: Eleny Cardenas, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences<br />• Best Representation of ASU College, School or Institute: Rumana Islam, Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering</p><separator></separator><p>The Parents Association and the ASU Alumni Association also selected winners among all entries:</p><separator></separator><p>• Parents Association Choice: Jennifer Woerner, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences<br />• ASU Alumni Choice: Chris Lee, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences</p><separator></separator><p>Contest winners received four VIP seats at the Spring Commencement ceremony on May 13 at Wells Fargo Arena, as well as a gift pack containing ASU-themed memorabilia. The contest was sponsored by the Senior Year Experience, a program of the ASU Alumni Association that hosts a variety of social events, networking mixers and career events for graduating ASU seniors to make the transition from their university to their professional life as smooth as possible.</p><separator></separator><p>Alissa Pierson, associate executive director for programs and constituent group relations, proclaimed the contest a smashing success.</p><separator></separator><p>“The participation levels — both in terms of numbers of contestants and numbers of people who voted — for this contest exceeded our expectations, and we will continue to build on the success of this first year,” she said. “The contest allowed us to provide one last bit of fun for our graduating seniors, and demonstrated the creativity and ingenuity of our soon-to-be alumni!”</p><separator></separator><p>To view photos of the winning caps and learn more about the Senior Year Experience, visit <a href="http://alumni.asu.edu/programs/grad-cap-winners&quot; target="_blank">http://alumni.asu.edu/programs/grad-cap-winners</a>.</p&gt;
