Alum Dustin Pedroia adds Silver Slugger Award to recognitions
Former Sun Devil and current Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia added another trophy to his case Thursday, as he won an American League Silver Slugger Award. It is the first career Silver Slugger Award for Pedroia, who last week was named an AL Gold Glove winner, and it is the 17th time a former Sun Devil has been honored as one of the top hitters in baseball.
Pedroia finished the 2008 season tied for the Major League lead with 213 hits, and he was second in the American League with a .326 batting average. He started in the All-Star Game and helped the Red Sox to an American League East title this season, and he was the AL Rookie of the Year in 2007.
Pedroia starred at ASU from 2002 to 2004, hitting .384 over his three-year career and winning the Pac-10 Player of the Year award in 2004.
