Abdala and McHenry named Arizona State Athletes of the Week


<p> Women's Tennis senior <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/w-tennis/mtt/abdala_laila00.html">L… Abdala</a> and Track and Field freshman <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/mchenry_mason00.html">M… McHenry</a> have been named ASU's Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 14th. Both have displayed outstanding athleticism in their respective sports.</p><separator></separator><p>Abdala defeated Washington's Samantha Smith 6-0, 6-2 on Friday, leading the Devils to a 5-2 win over the Huskies. The next day Abdala put away Washington State's Ioana Oprea 6-0, 6-1, as the team shut out the Cougars 7-0. Her wins helped move Women's Tennis up two spots, from No. 16 to 14 nationally. She and her sister Nadia are the 50th ranked doubles team in the nation.</p><separator></separator><p>McHenry ran the second-fastest time in the nation this year and the 19th-best in the world at 800m with a school-record time of 1:47.74. A true freshman, McHenry's mark blasted the previous record in the event of 1:49.51 that was run by Treg Scott in 1985 when he finished fifth at the NCAA Indoor Championships.</p>
