Abdala and McHenry named Arizona State Athletes of the Week

Women's Tennis senior Laila Abdala and Track and Field freshman Mason McHenry have been named ASU's Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 14th. Both have displayed outstanding athleticism in their respective sports.

Abdala defeated Washington's Samantha Smith 6-0, 6-2 on Friday, leading the Devils to a 5-2 win over the Huskies. The next day Abdala put away Washington State's Ioana Oprea 6-0, 6-1, as the team shut out the Cougars 7-0. Her wins helped move Women's Tennis up two spots, from No. 16 to 14 nationally. She and her sister Nadia are the 50th ranked doubles team in the nation.

McHenry ran the second-fastest time in the nation this year and the 19th-best in the world at 800m with a school-record time of 1:47.74. A true freshman, McHenry's mark blasted the previous record in the event of 1:49.51 that was run by Treg Scott in 1985 when he finished fifth at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
