#1 baseball beats Wofford 9-3
Top ranked Arizona State defeated Wofford 9-3 Tuesday night in front of a crowd of 2,386 at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark. The Sun Devils improve to 26-1 on the season with the victory.
ASU did not allow a hit until the sixth inning, as senior Dustin Brader started and went three innings before Seth Blair came on from the bullpen to earn the victory. Blair allowed three hits and three runs while striking out three over four innings to improve to 3-1 on the season.
The Sun Devils jumped out to a quick start offensively, scoring six runs in the first two innings. Kiel Roling had an RBI double and Ryan Sontag drove in a run on a groundout in the first to give ASU a 2-0 lead.
In the second, Jason Kipnis then drove in three runs on a bases loaded triple to left center, and Ike Davis then brought Kipnis in with a sacrifice fly to put the Sun Devils in front 6-0.
Brett Wallace then added to the lead with a three-run double in the sixth. The Terriers struck for three runs of their own in the seventh inning, but that would be their only offense of the night.
Kipnis and Rocky Laguna led the ASU offense with two hits each in the win.
The Sun Devils host Wofford again tomorrow night, with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark.
