#1 baseball beats Wofford 12-4 in seven innings


<p>Top ranked Arizona State defeated Wofford 12-4 Wednesday night at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark to sweep the two-game series with the Terriers and improve to 27-1 on the season. The game was stopped after seven innings due to the travel curfew rule.</p><separator></separator><p><a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/davis_ike00.html">Ike Davis</a> hit two home runs, his fourth multi-homer game of the season, and drove in six, while <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/paramore_petey00.html"… Paramore</a> returned after missing Tuesday's game and had three hits, including his second home run of the year, and a season-high four RBI.</p><separator></separator><p><a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/rafferty_tommy00.html"… Rafferty</a> earned the win and moved to 6-0 on the season with 2.1 innings out of the bullpen, giving up one run and striking out three. <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/sauer_stephen00.html">… Sauer</a> started and went 2.1 innings, allowing two runs on just one hit and recording five strikeouts.</p><separator></separator><p>Paramore got the Sun Devils on the board first with a two-run homer to right in the first inning, but Wofford tied the game with a two-run shot of its own in the third.</p><separator></separator><p>ASU answered in the bottom of the third with an RBI double by Paramore and Davis' first home run of the night, a line drive to right, to take a 5-2 lead.</p><separator></separator><p>The Sun Devils added two more in the fourth on an RBI groundout by <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/wallace_brett00.html">… Wallace</a> and an infield single by Paramore that drove in <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/laguna_rocky00.html">R… Laguna</a>.</p><separator></separator><p>Wofford closed the gap with one run each in the fifth and sixth innings, but Davis hit a three-run homer in the bottom half of the sixth to extend ASU's lead to six runs and give him a team-high 10 home runs on the season.</p><separator></separator><p> The Sun Devils capped off the scoring with two more runs in the seventh. <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/jones_mike00.html">Mike Jones</a> had an RBI double to right center and Davis drove in another run with a groundout to second.</p><separator></separator><p>Paramore was 3-3 with a walk to lead the ASU offense, while Davis and Wallace had two hits each.</p><separator></separator><p>The Sun Devils return to Pac-10 action Friday, as they begin a three-game series at Stanford.</p><separator></separator><p>&nbsp;</p>
