#1 baseball beats Wofford 12-4 in seven innings
Top ranked Arizona State defeated Wofford 12-4 Wednesday night at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark to sweep the two-game series with the Terriers and improve to 27-1 on the season. The game was stopped after seven innings due to the travel curfew rule.
Ike Davis hit two home runs, his fourth multi-homer game of the season, and drove in six, while Petey Paramore returned after missing Tuesday's game and had three hits, including his second home run of the year, and a season-high four RBI.
Tommy Rafferty earned the win and moved to 6-0 on the season with 2.1 innings out of the bullpen, giving up one run and striking out three. Stephen Sauer started and went 2.1 innings, allowing two runs on just one hit and recording five strikeouts.
Paramore got the Sun Devils on the board first with a two-run homer to right in the first inning, but Wofford tied the game with a two-run shot of its own in the third.
ASU answered in the bottom of the third with an RBI double by Paramore and Davis' first home run of the night, a line drive to right, to take a 5-2 lead.
The Sun Devils added two more in the fourth on an RBI groundout by Brett Wallace and an infield single by Paramore that drove in Rocky Laguna.
Wofford closed the gap with one run each in the fifth and sixth innings, but Davis hit a three-run homer in the bottom half of the sixth to extend ASU's lead to six runs and give him a team-high 10 home runs on the season.
The Sun Devils capped off the scoring with two more runs in the seventh. Mike Jones had an RBI double to right center and Davis drove in another run with a groundout to second.
Paramore was 3-3 with a walk to lead the ASU offense, while Davis and Wallace had two hits each.
The Sun Devils return to Pac-10 action Friday, as they begin a three-game series at Stanford.
