The Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University caught up recently with Perkins Coie LLP to learn more about the leading international law firm and what sets it apart from the rest.

Recognized as a 2020 Fortune “100 Best Companies to Work For” for its 18th consecutive year, Perkins Coie has more than 1,100 lawyers in offices across the U.S. and Asia, with more than 70 attorneys in its Phoenix office and 20 ASU Law graduates working for the firm. Perkins Coie provides a full array of corporate, commercial litigation, intellectual property and regulatory legal advice to a broad range of clients, including many of the world’s most innovative companies and industry leaders as well as public and not-for-profit organizations.

Lindsay A. Jewell, ASU Law 2008 grad, is a partner in Perkins Coie’s real estate and land use practice and is based in Phoenix. Listed as a “Rising Star” in Southwest Super Lawyers for the last four years, Jewell spoke to ASU Law via Zoom to share more on what makes the firm special.

Diversity is a long-standing core value and strategic goal of Perkins Coie, Jewell said, and in that vein, the firm offers a 1L diversity fellowship program.

“We often find excellent candidates and hire those candidates from ASU Law,” Jewell said, adding that the firm also looks to ASU Law to recruit 1L students for fellowships in its specific practice groups.

“Perkins Coie works on a national practice group platform so it doesn’t matter where you sit in terms of the clients, the cases, the transactions you get to work on,” said Jewell on the benefits of working for the firm. “So while you are sitting in Phoenix, you may have local clients, but you will also have clients from across the country and possibly across the world, and you’ll be working with attorneys in our other offices as well as the Phoenix office.”
