Obesity Solutions Challenge winners announced
Winners in the Obesity Solutions Challenge were officially announced April 1.
The funding challenge, which opened Feb. 1, offered entrepreneurs with ideas to combat obesity the chance to win up to $10,000 in seed funding for their venture, along with office space, mentoring and the opportunity to present their ideas to real-world investors through ASU’s Venture Catalyst Program.
Four winners were announced from nine finalists chosen to present their ideas to the judging panel March 26. Entries were judged on the proposed solution’s potential impact on the obesity epidemic, the strength of the team, innovation, and the sustainability of the solution.
The winning teams demonstrated the passion and diversity of the larger ASU community, and included a staff-led team, a student team, a faculty team, and a team of high school students under the leadership of an ASU alum.
The winners of the challenge are:
• Alien Health Game
• Nutritional Health Awareness
• Newtrition
• Stand and Move
The Obesity Solutions Funding Challenge is a great example of ASU’s commitment to health and wellness, as well as its dedication to fostering entrepreneurship and innovation within the community.
“ASU is an institution that deeply values the entrepreneurial spirit, that lets people go and try something new – or to see if it works," says Alexis Brewis Slade, director of operations. "This funding challenge is about providing the support to see if that idea has wings."
