David Earll

David Earll, 2014 Arizona State University Doctor of Music Arts tuba graduate, has been awarded the International Tuba Euphonium Association (ITEA) 2016 Clifford Bevan Award for Excellence in Research for his work "“Conn Tuba Designs from 1880––1940: An Investigation of Early Tuba Product Lines and Construction Techniques.”"

"I am both honored and humbled to be the recipient of this incredible award for my research on the development and construction of early American tubas," says Earll. "I am incredibly grateful for the investments that my outstanding teachers at ASU made in guiding and refining my research."

The Clifford Bevan Award for Excellence in Research is the highest award received for research through the International Tuba Euphonium Association. The distinguished panelists, representing the ITEA and other organizations that focus on organology, historical brass and musicology, selected his work unanimously.

One reviewer noted, "“This paper deserves strong consideration for the Bevan award due to its depth, originality and specificity to the history of tubas made by an important instrument manufacturer.”"

Earll was honored at the 2016 International Tuba Euphonium Association Conference in May 2016 at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
