Lexie Kruse

Lexie Kruse, a Master of Fine Arts in trumpet performance student in the School of Music, recently won second place and $500 at the Grand Junction Symphony Solo Competition in Colorado. She performed the Planel Trumpet Concerto, a French piece with three movements.

This annual competition in Grand Junction includes tape/preliminary round auditions for a variety of instruments. Three finalists are chosen for the live rounds.

Kruse’'s ultimate dream is to be a soloist with major orchestras, so she plays in competitions like this to improve her performance skills. She says, "“Participating in this competition was a fantastic experience because I had the privilege of playing with two other outstanding artists."

Kruse is a student of David Hickman, Regents' Professor of Music.
