Brandon Houghtalen, who earned a DMA with a concentration in conducting from the School of Music in 2012, has been selected to present a session at the 71st annual Midwest Clinic in Chicago, Illinois. Houghtalen’s presentation, "Music for All of Us: Reflecting Society Through Repertoire Selection,” is a continuation of his research on the American musician James Reese Europe.

Also, in June, Houghtalen will begin his third year as conductor of the Tennessee Governor's School for the Arts Wind Ensemble. The Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts exists to provide high-quality arts education for gifted and talented high school students in the state of Tennessee. The pre-professional summer curriculum includes individual and group instruction designed to help each student explore and develop his or her talents in music, ballet, theatre, filmmaking and visual art.
