Scott Pelley, the anchor and managing editor of the “CBS Evening News”, was a special guest of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication in a moderated discussion with students on Sunday, Nov. 20. Karla Liriano, a Cronkite School senior, moderated a conversation that varied from Walter Cronkite to our recent election and on the importance of journalism in our democracy. During a question and answer segment, Pelley offered students career advice, recommending a focus on excellent writing skills and to never give up on their dreams of becoming journalists.

Pelley has anchored the “CBS Evening News” since 2011, its audience has grown for five consecutive seasons, producing the broadcast’s highest ratings in 10 years. He is also a full-time correspondent on “60 Minutes.”

The CBS anchor has won four George Foster Peabody Awards, three Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia University Awards, three George Polk Awards, 10 Edward R. Murrow Awards and more than 30 Emmys, and most recently the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism.
