Audition call for A Chorus Line presented by Lyric Opera Theatre

Lyric Opera Theatre’s production of the smash Broadway musical, A Chorus Line, is being staged just as the original was in New York City, including an open audition call and a workshop. It’s a big production, showcasing 17 major roles and an ensemble of 30 or more.

Auditions for A Chorus Line are Saturday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m.
Callbacks are Sunday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m.

The location for auditions and callbacks is the Evelyn Smith Music Theatre rehearsal room, EB294 (East Music Building, Second Basement. All those interested in auditioning should come to the Lyric Opera Theatre office at least two weeks in advance of Oct. 26 to fill out paperwork and receive details on exactly what to prepare for the audition. The Lyric Opera Theatre Office is in EB194, East Music Building, First Basement. Questions: 480-965-2856.

“Everyone is welcome to audition, but especially students in Dance or Theatre at ASU,” says JoAnn Tongret, Senior Lecturer in the Herberger College who will choreograph the LOT production. “There are major roles for pretty decent dancers or those who are good movers. You must be able to sing, but you don’t need to be fabulous,” she says.
Tongret will teach a Spring Semester workshop in conjunction with the production so cast members can get to know one another while developing their characters and experiencing a great deal of choreography. “The workshop is really a bonding experience,” notes Tongret. “The workshop is in keeping with the origins of A Chorus Line, which evolved from the workshop concept.” For more information on the workshop, which can be taken for credit, contact Tongret at 480-965-0071.
