The ASU Guitar Prep Program will host its annual Spring Recital on (Saturday) May 4 at 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. in the Music Building’s Recital Hall. The performances are free and open to the public.

Guitar Prep students, ages five to 18, will perform solo and ensemble works. Since 1994, the ASU Guitar Prep Program in the Herberger College of Fine Arts School of Music has been teaching classical guitar to children as young as 5 years old. The program is under the direction of its founder, Joseph Costello. The program’s teaching staff members have either a bachelor’s or master’s degree in guitar performance and/or teaching. An essential, and natural part of the program’s teaching is that of group learning, which is both motivating and progressive. The group dynamics help the students to assume responsibility and be a part of a larger group that is progressing together. At age 11, students begin taking weekly private lessons and bimonthly group lessons.
