ASU School of Music faculty, students and alumni well represented at the Arizona Music Educators Association 75th Anniversary Conference

Congratulations to the ASU School of Music faculty, students and alumni who performed and presented at the Arizona Music Educators Association 75th Anniversary Conference, Jan. 30-Feb. 1 in Mesa, Ariz.

In this, the 75th anniversary of the Arizona Music Educators Association conference, the ASU School of Music community contributed more than 35 percent of the peer-reviewed conference sessions and workshops, a testament to the excellent programs offered by the school. Among those presenting were six ASU School of Music faculty: Gary Hill, James Hudson, Mike Shellans, Sandra Stauffer, Jill Sullivan and Evan Tobias; eight current MM and PhD students, and more than 15 alumni of the school’s music education program. All gave presentations during the annual three-day conference of the Arizona Music Educators Association in Mesa, Ariz. Additionally, over 70 members of the ASU Wind Orchestra and the ASU Wind Ensemble performed as part of a session on Masterworks for the Concert Band presented by Gary Hill.

Three alumni received awards from the association: Karen Miller (BM, MM) was named one of four recipients of the O.M. Hartsell Excellence in Music Teaching Award for “demonstrated exceptional ability as a teacher of music,” Amanda Estes (BM) was named one of two recipients of the George C. Wilson Leadership and Service award for “an exceptional amount of service with demonstrated strong leadership in the association,” and Susan Reismann (BM) was the sole recipient of the William E. Richardson Retired Member Award, which recognizes “those retired members who continue to give faithful service to the organization.” We congratulate our ASU community for its great contributions to the AMEA conference.
