Science fiction theme to new student exhibition


What: Illustrated Science Fiction: Creation, an exhibition featuring an illustrated science fiction short story created by the artist. 
Where: Step Gallery, located in ASU's Tempe Center complex, southeast corner of Mill Avenue and University Drive (gallery faces University Drive.) 
Who: Ian Alexander Castruita, a senior at the Herberger College School of Art and a member of the Barrett Honors College. 
When: April 22-26, 2002.
          Opening Reception: 7-9 p.m., April 22.
Hours: Monday through Thursday from noon to 5 p.m. and Friday 
from noon to 3 p.m.
Cost: Always Free

About the Exhibition: Ian Castruita is a senior in the painting/drawing program at ASU's Herberger College School of Art and a member of the Barrett Honors College. He debuts his original, illustrated science fiction short story in this exhibition, which also documents his creative process.

Illustrated Science Fiction: Creation includes Castruita's referenced materials, final page layouts, preliminary sketches and acrylic on canvas illustrations. The exhibition is part of Castruita's creative project for his honors' thesis. He plans to make the final version of his story available on the Internet when it is complete. The public is invited to meet the artist at an opening reception on April 22 at 7 p.m.

The Step Gallery is one of three galleries on the ASU Tempe campus operated by students, staff and faculty of the School of Art in ASU's Katherine K. Herberger College of Fine Arts. It is dedicated to solo and group shows by undergraduate students in the School of Art.
