The ASU Alumni Association recently received four awards in the 28th annual Awards for Publication Excellence (APEX) competition. APEX is an international competition that recognizes outstanding publications ranging from newsletters and magazines to annual reports, brochures and websites.  This is the seventh year in a row the Alumni Association has received awards in the APEX competition.

ASU Magazine, the quarterly magazine of Arizona State University, was the focus of a Grand Award that the Alumni Association staff received this year. Liz Massey, managing editor for the magazine, was honored along with editor-in-chief Tracy Scott and creative director Boyd Erickson with a Grand Award for writing and design excellence for the December 2015 issue.

The Alumni Association also received three APEX Awards of Excellence. Rekha Athreya, a senior marketing/communications specialist with the association, was honored with an Award of Excellence in the Best Series of Blog Posts category, for several posts that provided “travel diary” recaps of trips hosted by the organization’s ASU Travel and Tours program.

Sarah Auffret, a freelance writer for ASU Magazine, received an Award of Excellence in the Feature Writing category for an article she contributed to the December 2015 issue, titled “ASU: Then & Now.” This cover story chronicled the university’s 130-year history as an institution, and compared historical milestones with the state of the university today.

Massey and Brandy Aguilar, a digital storyteller for DigitalWire 360, also were honored with an Award of Excellence for their collaboration on the “ASU Golden Reunion - Class of 1965” video. The program shared highlights of the reunion, an annual Alumni Association event that honors the ASU class celebrating its 50th anniversary during Spring Commencement week, as well as reflections on the celebration by reunion attendees.
