ASU Insight: HIGHLIGHTS - Ending Human Trafficking Panel, The Sedona Forum 2015

The Ending Human Trafficking panel at The Sedona Forum 2015 was moderated by Randy Newcomb of Humanity United. Participants included Cindy McCain, Chair of the Human Trafficking Advisory Council at The McCain Institute and Demi Moore, Co-Founder of Thorn.

The McCain Institute’s commitment to strengthening character-driven global leadership is reflected in its efforts to support humanitarian action. Through the activities of our Humanitarian Action program, The McCain Institute has become nationally recognized for its work to counter human trafficking. The Institute’s high-level Human Trafficking Advisory Council taps into the knowledge and experience of leading experts in the field to help guide the Institute’s work.

The Institute provided technical support to the Arizona Governor’s Task Force on Human Trafficking and subsequently to the follow-on Arizona Human Trafficking Council, which resulted in specific recommendations and new legislation to fight human trafficking and protect victims in the state of Arizona. The Institute has also teamed up with the Office of Sex Trafficking Intervention Research in Arizona State University’s School of Social work to produce original research and analysis to assess the scale and scope of human trafficking. Partnerships have been secured to leverage new data and technology to identify and fight trafficking online. In collaboration with our valued partners, the Institute is a leader in innovative approaches to combat human trafficking. Our partnership with Thorn: Digital Defenders of Children, Google and Digital Reasoning led to the creation of Spotlight, a new technology that helps law enforcement shine a light on suspected human trafficking networks and thereby target anti-trafficking resources more effectively.
