Kiesling's first class at ASU didn't waste any time getting into the course work. The freshman from outside of Chicago looks up to the periodic table as she tries to figure out the atomic mass of copper during an exercise assigned by her instructor on Sept. 9.

As a freshman nursing student, Kiesling will spend a lot of time in labs. Her first hands-on experience took place Sept. 14 in her Chemistry 101 lab at the University Center on the Downtown Phoenix campus. The lesson began with Kiesling and her lab mates deciding what tools to use. With two years of chemistry in high school, Kiesling's lab mates turned to her for guidance.
